Woodcote

On Top Of The World In Woodcote

Oxfordshire is full of picturesque little villages and towns that may seem a little boring at first glance but when you truly get to experience them for yourself, you will find out just how relaxing and enjoyable they can be. Woodcote is one of those villages. It is traditional old English village but with one difference. It occupies the highest point in the Oxfordshire Chiltern Hills with a wonderful view!

The village of Woodcote does have historical value. It was documented for the first time in 1109, but it is thought o have been in place thousands of years before that. There is a Celtic stone head there that has been dated back to 1500BC, but an axe handle that was deemed to be 5000 years old was also found in the vicinity of the village.

Woodcote is the perfect village for urban dwellers and tourists (and is an ideal place to bring a caravan with the family, just make sure you have the required caravan insurance) from various other countries to visit when they are in the area if they want to find out just what small and rural village life can actually be like. Just like any traditional village, it is based around the village green, which used to be a traditional meeting place for the villagers centuries ago. There is a village hall and Church Farm there and they mark the central point of the village – an excellent starting point for anyone wanting to explore the workings of the village itself a little further.

However, the main attraction of Woodcote is the nature that surrounds it! There are fantastic woodlands and fields in this part of the Chiltern Hills that provide anybody interested in the natural world with plenty of opportunities to take long walks, marvel at the diversity of wildlife and relax! There are footpaths that you can follow and many of them are featured in the local rambling and walking guides that can commonly be found for sale. There is also a bridle path so if you are interested in horse riding then you may have found the place in Oxfordshire for you! There is also a rally held there every year. It exhibits vintage and steam transport and real ale as well. A strange combination, but it works! You have to see it to believe it!
