The White Horse Hills

A Quick Introduction To The Spectacular White Horse Hills

The White Horse Hills in Oxfordshire have been the focus of their fair share of news coverage over the years, largely thanks to one main feature. They provide the home of the Uffington White Horse, a chalk figure that is etched into the side of one of them! Thousands of visitors flock to the hills every year as a direct result of its presence, but when they get there each and every single one of them will not be able to contain themselves as they see the hills in all of their glory!

Providing a home to Uffington Castle, the White Horse Hills have been in place for thousands of years and can be traced back as far as the Iron Age, even though geological and archaeological examination has proved that they existed before then. The castle itself was actually a fort in the Iron Age and is now open to the public all year round. It is a fascinating structure and there are often events held there that might be of interest.

One of the main attractions of the White Horse Hills is undoubtedly the Uffington White Horse, as previously mentioned. It is an amazing figure that can be seen for miles around, but you have to be right next to it to fully understand just how unbelievable its existence really is. It is a massive 110m long and is around 3000 years old. It is an absolute must see if you are visiting Oxfordshire, and if you do not visit it then you are really missing out.

The views from the White Horse Hills are absolutely amazing and will take your breath away. The picturesque setting is extremely peaceful so you can just kick back and relax up there. There are trips there from other areas of the county and it is extremely accessible if you want to drive, but it is definitely worth making the effort.
