Stowe House:
The Final Feather In The Landscape Gardens' Cap

Stowe Landscape Gardens are world famous for their monuments, natural features and sheer beauty. They are also the apples of Buckinghamshire’s eye! Located near Buckingham, the gardens should be on any visitor to the area’s itinerary, but whilst you are there you should also take a look at Stowe House. Stowe House is the only house or inhabitable dwelling within the gardens and thoroughly matches their beauty. Both the house and gardens have been much copied all over Europe as a result of the impact they have on people and the fact that both denote real class and importance, but none of these imitations live up to the attraction and awe of the original.

Stowe House was built in the 18th Century by not one but several of the most important and influential architects and designers of the period, including Kent, Vanbrugh and Gibbs, amongst others. As such, it incorporates all of their individual styles for a simply amazing effect. The house is absolutely gorgeous and resembles a palace more than it does a stately manor or house. It was actually earmarked for demolition in the early years of the 20th Century, but the Stowe School saved it in 1923 and it is now one of the most popular visitor’s attractions in Buckinghamshire.

Stowe House is actually Grade I listed and has been restored to its full glory over the past few years and the results have been simply amazing. It looks magnificent both inside and out and truly is a key part of the county and the country’s heritage. The décor and architecture is largely Neo-Classical and very grand. As such, you can really see how the other half truly lived! The place is packed full of history so go and immerse yourself in it while you can.
