Milton Keynes: The Newest City On The Block

Milton Keynes is one of the newest cities in England today, having only been granted that status a few years ago despite having filled the criteria for years! It actually celebrated it 40th birthday in 2007, having been granted the status of new town in the 1960s. It is a very active part of Buckinghamshire and has facilities that many other towns and cities in the area do not have on account of its recent birth. This may be why so many visitors to the area decide to check it out for themselves!

Even though Milton Keynes was actually brought into being to give commuters that have to get into London every day a home outside of the city, the local council took the bull by the horns and has built an excellent city. Although the town has little history in itself, the new facilities more than make up for it and you and your family are guaranteed a great day out there with much to do and see!

The architecture in Milton Keynes is a perfect example of the modern styles that have been prevalent since the 1960s and 1970s. As such, and combined with the fact that new buildings are continuously being built, there is a vast array of styles of building there, which can prove fascinating for individuals that like that sort of thing! It does move away from the traditional and yet it seems to work well. Thanks to the American block system, there are good shopping centres and leisure complexes there as well as the woodland and lakes that Buckinghamshire is famous for!

In terms of activities to do on your day in Milton Keynes, there is a theatre, an art gallery, numerous music clubs that cater for every want and whim you may have, two museums, two cinemas and an extremely large shopping centre. No matter what your interests, there is something there to keep you happy!
