Bekonscot Model Village:
The Most Famous Buckinghamshire Village
The English countryside is notorious for and characterised by the wealth of small villages that are scattered around rural areas that have previously made a living from agriculture. Many tourists love these villages and all of their features, but some of them may feel like if they have seen one beach then they have seen them all. No matter which camp you fall into, Bekonscot Model Village will provide something different and most definitely memorable!
Bekonscot Model Village is just that – a model village in Buckinghamshire. It was created to depict and represent England and English village life in the 1930s. As a result, it features all sorts of models that would have a place in England at that point, including a cricket pitch, thatched cottages, Tudor buildings, a railway and trains that move along the track, a zoo and a fair, amongst other things of course.
It can be found in Beaconsfield and is actually the oldest existing model village in the world. Even more impressive, Bekonscot Model Village has had over 14 million visitors since 1978 when the Church Army took over the maintenance of the village. It does take a lot to maintain it because the village covers over two acres of land. This is a bonus for visitors as well because there is much more to see.
Although Bekonscot Model Village is known as one village the site actually contains six model villages, all of which do not exist in real life but many of the buildings and structures are simply scaled down models of existing buildings in villages, towns and cities up and down the country. As such, there is a number of types and styles of architecture thrown into the mix and a walk around can really prove to be an eye opener for architectural enthusiasts.
If you love architecture, history or models then this place will be a haven for you. If not, I’m sure you will want to find to more after a visit so take a look on your trip. It is most definitely worth it!
