Woburn Abbey

Woburn Abbey: A British Institution

Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties are well known for their true English heritage as a result of the people that have lived there and the centuries old mansions that still occupy the space there as well. The area is an absolute dream for those interested in architecture, history, culture and property, and Woburn Abbey is one of the main houses in Bedfordshire to visit today. If you go to Bedfordshire, this is one place that you simply have to go.

Woburn Abbey is written time and again in the history books as a direct result of the long and illustrious history of the building. It has been a prominent building for hundreds of years as a result of its standing as a home to royalty and then famous noblemen and their families, including the current occupant, the 15th Duke Of Bedford. Woburn Abbey is steeped in history and has a viable air of authority that stems right back to the Tudor period!

Woburn Abbey was actually given to the 1st Duke Of Bedford as a gift from Henry VIII and has been the family seat eve since, but very little of the original building still stands because it had to be rebuilt in the 18th Century. In fact, half of it had to be demolished just after World War II because of dry rot. However, the architecture is an awe inspiring site and will prove to be fascinating for many individuals. The 13th Duke revived the place and opened it to the public in 1953. There has since been various fun activities and attractions added to the ground, including a safari park. This makes it a fantastic day out for all of the family, regardless of interests and enthusiasms. Whether you visit Woburn Abbey for the history or the architecture or indeed the animals that roam the grounds, a good time will no doubt be had by all.
