The Shuttleworth Collection:
Make Your Trip To Bedfordshire Take Off

The Shuttleworth Collection is one of the true delights of the Bedfordshire countryside and one of the absolute must see exhibitions in the area. The collection is located in Old Warden Park and features a number of models of aircraft from the first hundred years of flight. Anybody interested in history, flying or even exploring the heritage of the area should stop off here before going home!

The Shuttleworth Collection is an absolutely 100% unique collection that you will not see anywhere else. It was actually set up in 1928 by Richard Shuttleworth, who was an aviator by profession and died in the air as well. He passed away on August 2nd, 1940 and just fur years later his mother established a trust to allow everyone else to share in his love of flying.

Since then, the Shuttleworth Collection has gone from strength to strength and the museum is now very popular amongst visitors to the area. The aircraft that are on display are extremely well preserved and continuously maintained so that you can see the real deal during your visit and marvel at the wonders of the past! They are also kept in hangars all year round so you can visit come rain or shine, along with a collection of vintage cars to broaden the history shown.

The Edwardian Flying Machines of the Shuttleworth Collection are simply amazing and there are a number of events and displays held every year. Those aircraft in the Shuttleworth Collection that can fly are used in flying displays that occur once a month, and that includes the oldest British aircraft that is still able to fly. This is o mean feat! That model is the Blerot XI. Amazingly enough, it still has it’s original engine, despite the fact that it was made in 1909! It is the oldest flying aircraft in the world so why not visit it when you get the chance?
