Shuttleworth House: The Pride Of Old Warden Park
Located in Old Warden Park in Biggleswade, Shuttleworth House is one of the most imposing and yet architecturally beautiful manor houses in the county of Bedfordshire. It has recently undergone an extensive restoration project to bring back its former glory and indeed it has succeeded. The house is an attraction in itself but there are many more attractions in the grounds and surrounding 6400 acres as well.
Shuttleworth House is actually a beautiful country house that has 500 of those acres attached to it. Instead of being a solely tourist destination, it now hosts functions, weddings and other similar events there, but it is still possible to go in and have a look around the Victorian house, although you will have to enquire about opening times and days because it often depends on the bookings of private events. However, not all events are private here at all.
There are often music concerts held in the grounds of the estate, but there are permanent exhibitions that you can indulge in. For example, the Shuttleworth Collection is a lovely collection of old aircraft from as far back as the Edwardian period, some of which still fly including the oldest one in the collection or indeed the world! It is possible to spend hours looking at the old aeroplanes and vintages cars that are on show, although the Swiss Garden that is on the land may well be just as appealing to you.
The grounds of Shuttleworth House really are gorgeous and that may be why it is as popular with visitors and those wanting to hold special events alike. Whatever you want to see and do at Shuttleworth House though, it is most definitely worth the trip. The sheer size of the building is awesome but then the grounds are even more jaw dropping so the only decision you should have to make is which one to look at first!
