Bedford Museum

The Best Museum In Bedfordshire: Bedford Museum

When most tourists and visitors plan out a holiday away from their homes, they want to explore all the area has to offer, but it can be impossible to cram the entire county, attractions and all, into a few days. As a result, it is good to know the one place that can give you a basic introduction and enable you to choose exactly what you want to se and do whilst away from home. Bedford Museum is often a stop for visitors that come to the county to have a look around and enjoy the little publicised sites and attractions that it has to offer. Situated right next to the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery and in the same grounds as Bedford Castle, or what is left of it, Bedford Museum is in a prime location, which makes it accessible to all.

Every county in England should undoubtedly have its own museum to showcase how the county has developed and highlight what life was like there in the past. This is exactly what Bedford Museum does. The continuous exhibitions will do much to educate you about the nature of the county and its heritage. There are displays on both the natural and man made history of the area and are extremely informative, as well as fascinating to examine because there are just so many artefacts in them. The museum has around 20,000 artefacts on display and will undoubtedly capture your attention from the moment you walk through the door until the moment you leave.

The exhibitions will take you through history from the flint tools of the Palaeolithic period that have been found during archaeological digs to Medieval pieces that have been given by the older families of the county. You can look at what life was like and also how the people of the area got by when it was almost entirely agrarian. You will walk away with a good deal of knowledge but also a better idea of what you want to see and do so you must stop by before going any further!
